Now in light of all that, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you? Only this: to revere the Lord your God by walking in all his ways, by loving him, by serving the Lord your God with all your heart and being, and by keeping the Lord’s commandments and his regulations that I’m commanding you right now. It’s for your own good! Deuteronomy 10:12-13 CEB
It’s for your own good.
God isn’t asking us to walk in his ways, love and serve him and keep his commandments because he is insecure and needs the attention. When we live like this, we keep the people without the power safer. Not safe all the time – because evil exists in the world and bad stuff happens.
This is the work of God’s people.
Daily the work of therapists, sponsors, mentors and faith leaders include work that helps their clients, sponsees, congregants and friends do the following, all of which, if not addressed creates less safe environments:
- Stop blaming others for our own fears and insecurities.
- Stop battling others who we have blamed for our own fears and insecurities.
- Start becoming more self-aware.
- Continue the work by taking personal responsibility for our own lives.
If we live like this, the world is safer for us all.
