In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young will see visions.
Your elders will dream dreams.
18 Even upon my servants, men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19 I will cause wonders to occur in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.
20 The sun will be changed into darkness,
and the moon will be changed into blood,
before the great and spectacular day of the Lord comes.
21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:17-21 CEB
Paul thinks of the Spirit in the closest possible relation to the risen Christ and interprets the work of the Spirit as the “first fruits” of the harvest of God’s coming reign. Paul understood the Holy Spirit in relational terms.
I do not have a great handle on what all this blood and fire and cloud of smoke is all about – but I hear this as a resounding cry of hope, “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Saved for what? Saved to rebuild, restore and renew.
People without hope don’t see visions and dream dreams.
Have you forgotten how to dream? Maybe finding a way back to community would help light your fire again. Old and young, men and women – all are welcome.
